Scope of work:

Based on the authorization of Pasnet participants, the department ensures and manages:

Pasnet Operations Centre

• ensuring the continuous operation of the network surveillance centre,

• configuration and maintenance of network elements,

• network monitoring, statistics, netflow,...

• designing connections of new university sites, consulting on faculty local network planning/options for increasing connection capacity

• assistance with ensuring the security of connected networks during dos attack and during normal operation

• coordination and provision of service and lease contracts,

• according to the coordinating group's instructions to implement and coordinate further development of the metropolitan network,

• ensuring the necessary synergy with the Cesnet z.s.p.o. association when using Great Infrastructure network services,

• connecting non-participants within DČ.

The network infrastructure department also primarily provides the following activities:

Management of university-wide network services

• management of second level CU DNS domains,

• provision of basic network services for the CU (DNS servers) and support of faculty administrators of these services,

• management of the IP space of the CU, allocation of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses,

• solution of network security incidents.

Management of local networks in the RCU and JINONICE premises

• configuration of active network elements (switches, routers, firewalls),

• management of auxiliary servers for support of services in local networks,

• monitoring of local networks.

Management of dormitory networks

• management of connections of dormitory buildings,

• management of LAN networks in D&R dormitory buildings,

• configuration of active network elements (switches, routers, firewalls),

• management of central dormitory firewall,

• management of auxiliary servers for support of services in local networks,

• monitoring of local networks.

Management of WiFi networks in selected objects

The following WiFi networks managed by the ICT CU are available in the RCU premises and in some other CU premises (see the coverage page for details):

• eduroam - http://eduroam.cuni.cz - main WiFi network for Charles University students and employees

• uk-events - http://events.cuni.cz - a special network accessible only in the buildings of the Rectorate of the Charles University for select types of events
