Network uk-simple serves mainly as a ‘safety net’ which enables users to download a certificate for the eduroam network, set a password for the eduroam, etc.
Operation of the uk-simple is limited to IPv4 network of the Charles University (addresses 195.113.0.0/18, 195.113.64.0/19, 78.128.160.0/19 a 78.128.192.0/20). To access other networks, users have to use the eduroam network.
The IPv4 network of the Charles University can be accessed after a login via WWW interface. The network can be accessed only by users from the following realms (domains):
cuni.cz (verified against the CAS of the Charles University – https://ldap.cuni.cz)
uvtuk.cuni.cz (verified against the UVTUK domain)
jinonice.cuni.cz (verified against the JINONICE domain)
student.cuni.cz (verified against the JINONICE domain)
staff.cuni.cz (verified against the JINONICE domain)
After authenticating to uk- simple network, users from the abovementioned reams can use their account for eduroam. For more details, see section on Authorisation.
All other users (for example, from other institutions) can use only the eduroam network. Instructions for the configuration of different operation systems are available here .
Network uk-simple follows the same rules regarding the list of supported services as the eduroam (see section Service supported). Clients are assigned private IPv4 addresses according to RFC1918 from ranges 10.45.0.0/22 and 10.47.0.0/24. On the firewall, these addresses are translated (NAPT/PAT) to a public IP address 195.113.15.69 (nat.uk-simple.cuni.cz). In the network, only IPv4 connectivity to networks of the Charles University in Prague is available.
