Camera system

Camera systems of individual locations are also designed in a building-block fashion built from downwards. The basic building block is a net-enabled digital recorder with connected IP cameras (1 to 32 cameras or its smaller version, 1 to 16 cameras). Connections are established via the existing structured cable network of the Ethernet network. The camera system is supported by software which enables the authorised personnel to watch images from any camera linked into the Charles University network on any computer where this software is installed – naturally only in case the administrator of the local camera system shares with such person the password of the relevant local camera system. Records from cameras are stored locally at faculties or other parts of the Charles University on equipment supplied within the project (network video recorders). Centrally, a certain disk capacity is also available for longer-term storage including backup but situations when extensive data need to be stores centrally are rare (among other things because the Office for Personal Data Protection of the Czech Republic does not permit the storage of such records for more than three days).
